Mrs. Adaline Yoder, age 91, of Sparta, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 1, 2010. She grew up on their Amish farm in Indiana. Because her mother died when she was two years old, her father raised her with the help from her brother, Amos who made her clothes and taught her how to read and do math. When she was three years old, she met Harley. Adaline and Harley were married when she was 21 and Harley was 24 in LaGrange, IN. While living in Indiana, Harley worked in a factory and helped his in-laws on their farm. In 1946 they moved to Grand Rapids. Adaline was a stay-at-home wife and mother who would garden, do the canning, and make clothing for her children from flour and seed sacks. When there was a need for more space at the family home, she went to work for McInnerny Spring & Wire to help with the finances and build a new home in Cutlerville. After a few years, they moved to Wayland. Adaline loved to quilt and crochet and play (that is the way she felt) in the dirt in her gardens. Her children have many special memories of their mother teaching them life skills, respect for others, cooking, crocheting, and loving their babies. Her favorite past-time activites were fishing and watching Westerns on television. Adaline is survived by her children, Harley and Phylllis Yoder, Virginia and Billy Brandow, Eli and Deb Yoder, Henry and Evelyn Yoder, Dianna and Richard Baas, Raymond and Sallie Yoder, Sharon and Bill Sommer; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley, her daughter, Shirley Ann Yoder, her grandson, Eric Yoder, and her siblings.
