Mr. Clarence Blakeslee, a.k.a. "Mr. Rockford," age 95, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Friday afternoon, July 16, 2010. He was a 1932 graduate of Rockford High School and a member of the Golden "R" Club. Clarence was a decorated WWII veteran; and with encouragement from the local newspaper, he wrote many articles of his war experience, which were published. From 1948 until 1979, Clarence was the owner and operator of Blakeslee & Son. He was a life member of the Merritt Lamb American Legion Post #102 and was the post Chaplain. Clarence was a long-time member of Rockford Baptist Church, a member of the Rockford Historical Society, and member of the Rockford Rotary Club. The community of Rockford had bestowed the title of "Mr. Rockford" to Clarence for his warm, humble, morally ethical, and generous acts of service to the community. Many folks will recall the smiling Clarence, always a gentleman, with a camera around his neck. He used his camera in preserving the historical and uniqueness of Rockford and the surrounding communities. Clarence is survived by his children, Rodd and Lynne Blakeslee of Rockford, Neil and Mary Blakeslee of Rockford; grandchildren, Brenda and Steven Bolin, Jason and Rachel Blakeslee, Mark Blakeslee, Emily and Cory Weinmann, Brian and Amy Lovall, Meagan and Jeff Rigley; great-grandchildren, Mallory Bolin, Alex Bolin, Lucas Blakeslee, Logan Lovall, Ava Lovall, Brock Rigley, Owen Rigley; brother, Clifford Blakeslee; nieces and nephews. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Lois on November 26, 1995, his sisters, Eileen Nelson, Opal Hall, and Lorraine Phillips; brothers, Basil Blakeslee and Ed Blakeslee.
