Mr. Ervin F. Hole, age 82, of Rockford, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 24, 2010. In 1946 he graduated from Rockford High School. Ervin served his country, his God, and his flag in the US Navy. He was such a wonderful father, grandfather, and great friend to all. After the service Ervin worked as a toolmaker at General Motors, retiring after 30 years. He was a long-time member of Bostwick Lake Congregational Church, the Rockford Historical Society, the Casino Club of Grand Rapids, and the American Legion Merritt Lamb Post #102 where he served as a Commander and in 1995 was Legionnaire of the Year. Ervin was an avid golfer, was a member of the Great Lakes Seniors Golf Association, and was fortunate to have had a "hole-in-one" on the 13th hole at North Kent Golf Course. He was inducted into the Rockford Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. Since the age of six, Ervin was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 63 years, the former Alyce Brower; children, Diana (Robert) Stebner of Houston, TX, Simon (Gloria) Hole of Rhode Island, David (Robin) Hole of Greenville; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and the whole Brower family who accepted Ervin with open arms. The service for Mr. Ervin Hole will be Wednesday at 12:00 (noon) at Bostwick Lake Congregational Church, U.C.C. with Rev. Jason Hubbard officiating. Military honors will be under the auspices of the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard with interment in Blythefield Memory Gardens.
