John Henry Brower, age 88 years 1 month, of Lowell, a child of God, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away Friday, July 30, 2010. Born to Henry and Beatrice Brower on June 30, 1922, he graduated from Rockford High School where he played football. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Micka. He married Betty June Smith on March 21, 1943 and enjoyed 62 years of marriage before her death in 2005. Together John and Betty established their home on a farm north of Lowell where they raised their daughters Jill and Jackie and son John, Jr. He became active in 4-H as a leader and member of the fair board. John was known as a hard worker and never put off doing anything. Later he went to work at Gibson's refrigeration in Greenville where he became a union steward before being promoted as a supervisor. Upon retirement he enjoyed golfing several times a week as well as gardening and attending Naval reunions. He could always be found in attendance at any event where a grandchild or great grandchild was participating. John was a member of the American Legion Merritt Lamb Post #102 and a friend of the First Congregational Church. Those grateful for his life and cherishing his memory are his children, Jill (Al) Johnston, Jackie Tousley, John (Laura) Brower, Jr.; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Alyce Hole; brothers, Jim and Judy Brower, Paul and Loni Brower, Frank and Missy Brower; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Trissell, Beverly Sherd and Barbara Straub; brothers-in-law, Mike Lamb and Jim Smith; nieces and nephews.
