S/Sgt Luke W. Kimberlin, age 29, passed away on September 29, 2010 while stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Luke was a graduate of Lowell High School in 1999. While in school he took part in drama and loved music. After he joined the Army you may say his interests changed. Luke loved the out of doors, rock climbing and cliff diving, as well as playing online video games with his buddies. He even interrogated and intimidated the young men who dated his sister. While in the Army he served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He loved life, “living the dream” and the military fit him like a glove. His family will always keep in their hearts his warm friendly smile, his big bear hugs and his many tattoos. Luke is survived by his parents, Dennis and Betsy (nee Winter) Kimberlin; his brother, Mark Kimberlin, with wife Rose, and their new daughter Lilly, who was born October 4, 2010; his sister, Jean Kimberlin; his grandparents, Sylvester and Elizabeth Winter, Clarence Kimberlin and Lillian Kimberlin; his god parents, Skip and Theresa Reath; many aunts, uncles and cousins. The Mass of Christian Burial for Luke will be offered on Saturday morning, October 9, 2010, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 11:00, with the Rev. Mark Peacock presiding. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed on Friday evening at 8:30 at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Friends of Michigan Veterans Home, PO Box 150251, Grand Rapids, MI 49515-0251. Family and friends may gather with Luke’s family from 2-4 and 7-9 on Friday at the Pederson Funeral Home and prior to the mass on Saturday at the church.
