Pastor Patty Ryan Kuiper, age 68, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. She grew up on the southeast side of Grand Rapids. While growing up, Patty took piano and dance lessons. She along with her sisters, Elizabeth, Lynne, and Susan sang at many church functions accompanied by their mom who played the piano. She studied hard and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1960 and then attended Western Michigan University, earning a B.A. in teaching. Patty taught school for four years and began teaching nurses aides in gerontology as a hands-on person. She loved every student, and they loved her. Patty was ordained in 1991 at Harvard Christian Freedom Church and later preached at His Grace Fellowship. She felt her spiritual gifts were in teaching, preaching, and showing compassion with love. Pastor Patty was still growing in her faith; and regardless of adversity, she always accepted each individual with love and kindness. She felt blessed to have wonderful parents, great siblings, and beautiful children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her goal in life was to live more like Jesus. Patty enjoyed reading (about five novels a week) and was very interested in history. She is survived by her loving children, Kenneth N. Pierce, Jr., of Greenville, Christopher Lee Kuiper of Rockford, and Sarah Lynne Kuiper of Rockford; grandchildren, Bethany (Nicholas) Edward, Zachary Christian Pierce, Emily Nicole Kuiper, and Kyler O'Conner; great-grandchildren, Kaden Nicholas G. Edwards, Paige Isabella Edwards; sisters, Pastor Lynne Kronewitter, Susan Kay and David Stevens; nieces and nephews. Patty was preceded in death by a son, Jamie Ryan Pierce, her parents, Will and Eva Ryan, and her sister, Elizabeth Ann Wilder. The Celebration of Patty's faith life and physical life will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Pederson Funeral Home with her son, Kenneth Pierce, Jr. officiating. Interment in Oakfield Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.
