Mr. Ralph “Rowdy” Kober, age 78, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010. He was born in Alpine Township to John and Barbara (nee Peters) Kober and had lived within a mile of his family’s farm home for his whole life. Rowdy married Doris Rosenberger and then entered the US Army serving his country in Korea. After the service, he farmed on “The Ridge” and drove produce to Detroit and elsewhere. Rowdy was known for growing quality peaches and apples; he also did custom combining. All his children were taught the value of hard work. His sons continue to operate the family fruit farm. Rowdy’s hobby was working and that made him a happy man along with a family that he loved. He was always willing to “step up” and help others. The color of “red” was his favorite; especially for his shirts, cars, trucks, tractors, and the barn. Rowdy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doris; his children, Dan and Ann Kober, Rodney and Denise Kober, Dawn and Andy Henderson, all of “The Ridge” in Sparta, and Ronda and Brian Abbott of Ravenna; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren with two more anticipated arrivals; brother and sister; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Nathan Henderson and two brothers. Interment in Alpine Center Cemetery.
